Garden

After her bout with the carrots Paloma was pretty fired up so we took her out to the garden to help us pick some tomatoes. She gravitated towards the flowers and wanted to show off how well she could balance and grab. It didn't take too long before her legs gave out and she took a little tumble. Nothing Mommy can't help with though.

Eating Carrots

Tonight's diiner was pureed carrots and pureed mangos. I don't know what the success rate of carrots actually eaten to carrots just spewed all over Paloma is, maybe 50/50.

Baby Zilla

At the Fancy Tiger the other day an employee apparently called Paloma Baby Monster. I'm assuming in a good way and not as in she was destroying things and throwing a tantrum.

Yesterday when she woke up we brought her into bed as we tried to wake up. She started crawling all over everything and when we stood her up she imitated stomping and smashing before wanting to tear off and start grabbing things again.

So for now as she learns to crawl and is constantly finding perilous positions and thing to topple over she's earned the nickname Baby Zilla.

These were all taken the day Paloma was born or within a few days. Hard to look believe and think of her again being so small and helpless. Stark contrast to the wild beastie she's become. And look at all that hair too!

Eat a Peach, full video

This is the full video from which I extracted her reaction to the peach's sourness.

Changes

I can't believe how much Paloma has changed. I was looking at photos last night of our trip to Nantucket and thinking back to how she was then at 5 months old. She loved to roll, but only to her left. She would roll and roll and roll but for the most part she was immobile and spent most of the time just chillin' out on her back. Correction, we would put her on her back and she would immediately roll to her left on to her tummy. But she could never figure out how to roll back and would get frustrated.

But I'm more amazed at the changes I've seen in her the past couple of weeks. She's gone from getting her wobbly legs up under her, bumbalones up in the air and then collapsing to full on crawling. Even sitting up was a little bit iffy as she seemed to sometimes just topple over. But now she refuses to be on her back which makes diaper changes extremely interesting. She put together her first crawl on Tuesday August 9 and now she's a force to be reckoned with. This kiddo gets around.

She's been somewhat mobile for a little bit, scooting around the living room, often backing herself under the couch.

As she learned to crawl and make forward movement she increasingly found ways to put herself near dangerous things - the living room stair, the fireplace mantle, other things she liked to grab on to that would easily topple over. I put her down and look away only to be astonished a few seconds later at how far she's traveled, smiling all the way.

She quickly gravitated toward the step from the living room to the dining room. She'd get herself propped up on it and her legs would be wobbling and twitching like crazy, her smile beaming as she tried to figure out how to get herself up and over. We'd sit with her with extreme caution on our brows. She'd often tumble over backwards with one of us catching her.

No more. She's mastered the stair (with a little help from yoga mats for traction). We put her down in the living room surrounded by things to keep her occupied but she's over toys, she wants to move. And she goes straight for the stair. Stands up, gets her legs under her and then crushes it.

The other day I was preparing to leave with her in the van but I needed to get the car seat out of Zoey's car which was parked in front, only a few steps away. I put her as far back on the van bed as I could, on her back, then ran to Zoey's car to get the seat and ran back. All of about 15 seconds. I returned to find she had covered the distance and was smiling that smile, looking over the edge of the seat. Unbelievable. She doesn't like to sit still.

This past weekend we went to Babies R Us to pick up baby proofing stuff. Gate, foam for the mantle, plugs for the sockets. Got the gate installed. I can now picture her going up to it, grabbing and standing as if in a little baby jail.

Often in her crib, we'll leave her crying and when things get quiet we'll go in to find her standing up, laughing, grabbing on to the rails, sometimes chewing on the rail. Great fun!

Eat a Peach

I think this is Paloma's first introduction to a peach. I love the gusto with which she goes after it and of course the reaction, followed by my snickering and her just taking it all in stride. Such a cutie.
