"Wow!"

When I say goodnight to Paloma, I put her in her crib, tell her goodnight, then walk to the door, say goodnight again and turn off her light.

The last few times I've done this, there is a slight pause after I turn off the lights and then she says, "Wow!" in a calm, awe like manner.

Maybe it's the darkness, maybe it's the glow in the dark stars Zoey put up for her a few weeks ago but I love it.

bike ride

Been a tough Thanksgiving week.

First the hives and steroids, which started last Friday, accompanied by bad sleep and Paloma just being a little bit off. Then she got sick, then Zoey got sick and none of us have had  much of a rest.

But last night, Paloma slept through the night and she had a nice long nap this afternoon.

Zoey went up to Karen's to finish her quilt leaving Paloma and I to pal around this afternoon.

First we started to clean out the pantry. Then we decided to go for a bike ride.

"Do you want to ride on my bike or do you want to ride your own bike?"

"My bike!"

She picked out her cowboy boots and "the pink one" (jacket) and off we went.

Otto joined us part of the way.

Paloma just whips around on this little trike bike. She has a flurry of activity and then usually stops to take everything in and then away she goes at breakneck speed.

We swang on the swings and looked at doggies and then rode all the way home.

"I did it!" she exclaimed upon arriving back in the driveway.

Halloween 2013

Paloma was a Cheddar Bunny for Halloween because she loves bunnies and she loves Annie's Cheddar Bunnies and mac 'n' cheese. Outfit made by Zoey with a little stuffed carrot and carrot treat bag.

Drawing

I can't remember when it really started. It had to have been after a visit to Oregon because I think Uncle Ag gave Paloma her first drawing instruments. But recently she has been a drawing machine. Not coloring but drawing. She's filled up her art books and just keeps going, drawing on everything she can find - mail, magazines, books. The other day Zoey dressed Paloma in a smock (i.e. an old Resource tee that came down to just above her feet) and Paloma did water colors in the kitchen. That concept of the paint and water is a little hard to grasp right now but she still made some awesome stuff. In this video she's drawing at the kitchen table - drawing what might just look like circle doodles are in fact distinct images of...Grammy, Uncle Ag, Mimi and Granddad.

And while the drawing is cute, maybe the best part of the video is the final few seconds. Paloma hears something outside - what could it be? Choo choo!

Orcas Island

After postponing for a month we were finally able to take our long awaited trip to Seattle and then out to the San Juan Islands and specifically Orcas Island. An early morning departure from the home was cold and rainy, practically snowing when we got to the Denver airport.
Tetons from the plane
We arrived to sunny and 70 in Seattle, quite a nice change. We visited with Maia, Zack, Henry, Maia's mother Jennifer and their newest baby girl (name?) in Seattle. They have a beautiful home with views from the upstairs of the downtown and Puget Sound. Henry loves Paloma and loved sharing his trains and trucks. After Maia and Zack's we met Kate Hestwood at Seward Park (?) right on the lake.

Paloma played on the playground, we watched the ducks and threw rocks. It was a beautiful day. We spent the night at Kate and Jordan's place in West Seattle in the coldest house ever. Thanks for turning up the heat Kate. Pho, diner breakfast, Trader Joe's and then northward to Anacortes to catch our ferry. We couldn't have asked for better weather. Hardly a cloud in the sky as we boarded the ferry in Anacortes for Orcas Island. Paloma ran around the boat in her sunglasses, showing off for everyone.
Pulling up to the Orcas Village Ferry Landing is what I would imagine Maine would be like, but maybe less craggy?

Summer fun

It was hot hot hot on Sunday. 100 degrees? No AC, just some fans and waiting for the long sun of summer to set and start cooling off. But for Paloma it means kiddie pool and noodie time and eating outdoors naked and getting dirty dirty dirty.

Mother's Day 2012

Kind of a sad Mother's Day in that Pappa basically slept all day. Bob worked on our garage roof, Zoey did some gardening, I slept most of the day. But we still got some great photos of Momma and Paloma.
